Every question is a good one. This guide covers the most common things people wonder before they reach out, no judgment, no pressure.

About Psychiatric Care

Q: What is integrative psychiatry?

Integrative psychiatry means treating you as a whole person, not just a diagnosis. It looks at everything that shapes how you feel: your mind, your body, your environment, your beliefs, and your daily life. Care is personal, respectful, and built around who you are, because no two people are the same.

Q: Is psychiatry only for people in crisis?

No. Most people seek care for everyday struggles, anxiety, low motivation, trouble sleeping, burnout, focus problems, or big life changes. Caring for your mind is healthcare, not a label.

Q: Do I need a diagnosis before I come in?

No. You don't need to know what's wrong to start. A conversation is enough. Stephanie will listen, ask thoughtful questions, and help you make sense of what you're feeling.

Q: Is this therapy or medication?

It can be either, both, or neither, depending on what you need. Stephanie offers psychiatric medication management, psychotherapy, lifestyle coaching, and lab work when needed. Care is built around you.

About Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners

Q: Is a Psych NP a real provider?

Yes. A Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is a licensed mental health clinician who can assess, diagnose, prescribe psychiatric medication, order labs, and lead your full treatment plan. In Massachusetts, Psych NPs practice as primary mental health providers.

Q: How is a Psych NP different from a psychiatrist?

The core care is the same, evaluation, diagnosis, prescribing, and treatment planning. Many patients say Psych NP visits feel more personal because there's often more time to listen.

Privacy & Trust

Will my family or community find out?

No. All care is confidential and protected by federal law (HIPAA). Nothing you discuss is shared with family, employers, or anyone else without your written permission.

What if I've never done this before?

That's normal, and welcome. The first visit is a conversation, not a test. You don't need to prepare anything or have the right words. Stephanie meets people where they are.

About Psychiatric Medication

Will I be put on medication?

Not automatically. Medication is one tool, not the whole plan. Stephanie focuses on understanding why you feel the way you do first, and only recommends medication when it fits your goals. Many patients benefit from lifestyle changes and psychotherapy without ever needing a prescription.

Will it change who I am?

The goal is to feel more like yourself, not less. Stephanie avoids overmedicating and chooses options that support aliveness, not numbness
